ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND

Jashpur Jan Vikas Sanstha (JJVS) came into existence on 1st February 2003 being registered under the Societies Registration Act 1973/44, in the Chhattisgarh state of India. The organization has its headquarter at Gholeng which is a small village in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh state.

The governing body of Jashpur Jan Vikas Sanstha comprises of tribal women from grass root level. The mission of the organization is to empower the tribal communities in the social, economic and cultural front. JJVS is working to develop tribal women leadership and to empower them in social, economic and cultural fields. The organization is working towards better management of the limited resources available within the Gram Panchayat of villages. This resource management is sought to be brought about though the various awareness programmes, on effectively using and protecting the available natural resources, conducted for the women “Self Help Groups” (SHG’s). The awareness programmes include - workshops, seminars and training programmes.

The Gram Sabha is entitled by the government to take up various schemes for the development of the villages. The Community Based Organizations (CBO’s) leaders are strengthened to tap government schemes. The organization is working towards educating the villagers for using the Gram Sabha to tap various government schemes for their development. A programme from Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discremination Against Women(CEDAW) an international treaty adopted in 1979 by United Nations General Assembly, has been taken up by the organization, for development of women leadership on issue of “violence against women”, and training of women on getting legal assistance for various atrocities against women. The organization is working with the ‘Women and child development Department’ and the ‘Police department’, of Jashpur District in spreading awareness and finding a solution to Human Trafficking. The organization is working actively to propagate Right to education scheme of the government.

The role of the organization is to organize meetings and training programmes for the School Management committee (SMC) to make them understand the working of the education system. The organization is keenly working and advocating the use of herbal medicines as followed by the tribal community down the ages. JJVS is making efforts to make the Pahari Korwa community to understand the importance of government schemes that how the schemes would transform them both at the individual and community level. The organization strongly believes in the Indian constitution advocacy of oneness throughout all varied communities and cultures. Communication of all positive information about development, both nationally and internationally is communicated to all the communities in the project area.

OPERATIONAL AREA


Jashpur Jan Vikas Sanstha work covers 72 villages of 55 Panchayats spread across the district of Jashpur, Chhattisgarh state. And presently the organization is working in 28 panchayats of 4 blocks namely- Bagicha, Manora, Jashpur and Duldula in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh state.
